Heckaman Homes was established in 1969. The current management, Craftech Building Systems, Inc., acquired ownership in 1986. Throughout the company's history, there have been more than 15,000 homes produced in the original Nappanee, Indiana location. The facilities comprise 90,000 square feet on 20 acres. Current annual production, in the two manufacturing plants, exceeds 450 homes.
The two product lines offered consist of over 50 different floor plans. The Custom Series include ranch, cape-cod and two-story homes. This series offers the home buyer a wide array of optional features, name brand products, color selections, and modifications. The Freedom Series offers fewer options and features, yet provides the buyer a quality constructed and very affordable ranch home.
Heckaman Homes employs an experienced and qualified workforce of approximately 120 people. Materials are purchased in volume by an extensive and dependable supplier network.
Each model design is subjected to structural analysis and code conformance review by an independent professional engineering firm. Every home has its own set of construction drawings that accompany it throughout production, assuring that it will be built in accordance with applicable state and local codes governing one- and two-family dwellings. In addition, every home is inspected by trained personnel of the Indiana Department of Fire Prevention and Building Safety along with an independent third-party agency if required by the destination state.
Heckaman Homes are generally constructed with greater structural integrity than site built homes, since they are designed to withstand the stresses encountered in transportation. All homes are delivered to the building site by trained factory drivers and are crane-set on the home foundation. Full-time crews are employed by Heckaman Homes to provide service to homeowners in accordance with their warranty.
